Hematology and Oncology

Hematology and oncology are medical specialties devoted to the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of blood diseases and cancer.

While hematology and oncology are two different fields of medicine, they are most often grouped together. These specialists provide care throughout the course of diseases – from discovery, through treatment, to recovery and survivorship. At AdvantageCare Physicians, our Hematologists and Oncologists use a range of treatment options for individualized care, including:

  • Chemotherapy
  • Immunotherapy
  • Hormonal therapy
  • Radiation therapy
  • Targeted therapy

Hematologists and Oncologists discuss these options with patients to determine the best course of treatment. If needed, they can refer patients to a surgeon for additional procedures.

In addition, our hematologists and oncologists help patients with any treatment side effects, including nausea, intestinal issues, pain, or fatigue. They also continue to care for patients after treatment with routine assessments or screenings.

Patients should see a Hematologists and Oncologist after getting a referral from their primary care physician. Patients with a family history of cancer should regularly screen themselves for moles and potential tumors. If you suspect a mole has changes size, shape or color, or noticed a lump under your skin, tell your primary care physician immediately.

If you feel the need to see a hematologist and oncologist, please talk to your primary care provider.
