Psychiatry and Behavioral Health

Behavioral health focuses on how our actions are linked to our mental, emotional, and physical wellbeing.

Behavioral health specialists help patients manage and provide treatment for their mental health issues. At AdvantageCare Physicians, our behavioral health specialists are a part of your care team and work collaboratively with your primary care doctor to support your overall health. Our behavioral health specialists provide support for a number of challenges, including:

  • Depression and other mood disturbances, such as Bipolar Disorder
  • Anxiety
  • Adjustment to life changes and losses
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
  • Coping with illness, chronic pain and other medical conditions
  • Alcohol and substance abuse, or other addiction problems such as gambling, shopping, internet use, or sexual activity
  • Other mental illnesses, including schizophrenia, obsessive compulsive disorder, eating disorders, etc.

Psychiatry is the medical specialty for all aspects of behavioral health, from evaluation and diagnosis to management and treatment interventions. At AdvantageCare Physicians, psychiatrists consult with other psychiatric care providers to manage patient’s overall health and make treatment recommendations.

Behavioral health concerns often arise from significant, sudden or uncontrollable life changes, such as transition at work or home and in your relationships or family, injuries or medical problems, or loss of a loved one, or income. Our behavioral health team works with patients to overcome these challenges with a variety of treatments, including:

  • Individual psychotherapy- counseling provided by behavioral health providers who are licensed clinical social workers.
  • Medication management - provided through consultation with psychiatric care providers as part of your overall behavioral health treatment plan.
  • Additional services, including specialty care, more focused mental health treatment, or other behavioral health services such as group therapy, family therapy, or other interventions specific to your conditions.

Behavioral health problems are common, and patients should not feel embarrassed or ashamed to seek help. Speak with your doctor about a referral.
