Primary Care

Family practice is a branch of primary care medicine designed to treat men, women, and children of all ages.

Family practice providers receive training in several medical specialties to diagnose and treat a wide range of conditions in all areas of the body. Family practice differs from internal medicine by treating a wider age of patients and number of conditions.

Patients should see a family medicine provider if they want to limit avoidable specialist visits. A family practice provider can also offer a greater continuity of care between family members than internal medicine. In addition to diagnosing and treating specific diseases and conditions, family practice providers can provide:

  • Preventive care
  • Vaccinations
  • Immunization and screening tests
  • Healthy lifestyle counseling

At AdvantageCare Physicians, family practice providers can also manage chronic illness and coordinate care between multiple specialists.

Internal medicine providers are primary care providers for adult patients.

At AdvantageCare Physicians, our board-certified internal medicine providers provide regular checkups, preventive care, and can oversee treatment from multiple specialists. Internal medicine physicians are trained to diagnose and treat of a range of conditions, including:

  • Diabetes
  • Digestive issues
  • Infections
  • Heart disease
  • Hypertension
  • Joint and muscle pain
  • Obesity
  • Respiratory conditions

Many internal medicine specialists undergo additional education and training in order to specialize in areas such as cardiology, endocrinology, infectious diseases, and other fields of medicine. Patients should see an internal medicine provider to manage their health, receive regular tests and screenings, and learn preventive care methods.

After reaching three years old, children can see the pediatrician on an annual basis.
