Getting Immunized is the Right Thing to Do

Many of us get a flu shot every year to avoid missing days from work or school during the times of the year when colds are most common. At the same time, some people skip the flu shot, believing that vaccinations expose them to illness or other harm. Misinformation about vaccination safety has never been more damaging than in the recent outbreak of measles, an illness we had long ago successfully managed through routine immunization.

Refusing to take the proven safety precaution of immunization—for measles, the flu, and other illnesses—not only puts you at risk, but it threatens those around you and can have dire consequences for entire communities. So, it’s time to do the right thing: Get your flu shot and any other vaccinations you need!

Everyone Has a Reason to Be Part of the Immunity Community

No matter who you are, you belong in the Immunity Community. Whether in our families, our workplaces, or as we go about our business in our cities and neighborhoods, we all interact with many people each day. Vaccinations keep us healthy, and talking about the importance of immunization is one way we can contribute to the good health of others.

For Parents:

The Immunity Community is an engaging way to protect yourself and your children from preventable illness. At ACPNY offices, getting shots and vaccinations is part of a fun experience for you and your family, with activities and other ways to celebrate that you’re doing your part to promote health.

For Children:

Children have immune systems that are still developing. And because children are especially vulnerable to the spread of serious disease, they are very important members of the community. That means they are especially vulnerable to the spread of serious disease, they are very important members of the community. Children can learn about their important role in becoming vaccinated and helping to save lives.

For Everyone:

The more we do to promote immunization, the heathier and safer our communities will be for our friends, family, and neighbors. Let’s work together and take pride in our neighborhoods by making them better places to live—with less of the health risks that vaccinations can protect us from.
