AdvantageCare Physicians, Northwell announce innovative collaboration to bring comprehensive women’s health services to Manhattan, Suffolk County and Staten Island

11/20/2019

New York, N.Y. -- NEW YORK, NY – AdvantageCare Physicians (ACPNY), one of New York's largest primary and specialty care practices, and Northwell Health, the state’s largest health system, announced an agreement that creates a new model for women’s health in the New York area. Under the terms of the agreement, ACPNY’s focus on primary care and care coordination will be integrated with Northwell’s state-of-the-art facilities and groundbreaking technology, bringing patients a holistic approach to women’s health that is designed specially to care for them in every life stage.

ACPNY’s unique care model focuses on “caring for the whole patient” – from wellness and preventive care to management of chronic disease and collaboration with specialty care, ACPNY providers and care teams see the whole picture of their patient’s health. Beginning in January, Northwell will build upon ACPNY’s current suite of services by offering gynecology, urogynecology, gynecologic oncology, gynecologic surgery, obstetrics, maternal fetal medicine, fertility and labor and delivery. Northwell physicians, physician assistants and midwives assigned to ACPNY will be based in Manhattan, Staten Island and Suffolk County, with most of the inpatient care to be delivered at Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan, Staten Island University Hospital and Southside Hospital in Bay Shore.

“Building a new model for women’s health with a partner like Northwell, who is equally committed to excellence and innovation, will have a profound and lasting impact on the health of our patients,” said ACPNY President and Chief Medical Officer, Navarra Rodriguez, MD. “ACPNY and Northwell have long enjoyed a productive relationship focused on providing our patients with the best care possible in appropriate settings, and this next chapter in our partnership represents a new paradigm for how we plan to partner with hospital systems.”

“Northwell’s experience in women’s health will build upon ACPNY’s unique approach to integrated care for women in our area and we’re proud to be collaborating with a practice which continuously demonstrates their commitment to the health of our communities,” said Michael Nimaroff, MD, senior vice president and executive director of OB/GYN services at Northwell. “With Northwell investing hundreds of millions of dollars toward expanding and renovating maternity units and other women’s health programs, ACPNY patients will benefit from a full continuum of OB/GYN services, including ACPNY’s top-tier providers, our own clinical talent, and top-notch facilities and the resources of the Katz Institute for Women’s Health.”

Collectively, Northwell’s 11 hospitals with maternity units delivered more than 39,200 babies in 2018, representing 17 percent of all births in New York State and one percent of births nationally.

“At ACPNY, we are committed to caring for women in every life stage and we look forward to continuing to serve our communities with this next level of care,” said ACPNY’s Chair of Women’s Health, Bruno Casanova, MD. “This is an integrated partnership that reflects our desire to provide the highest quality experience across the care continuum, from primary care to women’s health and other specialties, and we look forward to working alongside our Northwell counterparts to provide a broader scope of women’s health services to a greater number of patients.”

Northwell has recently embarked upon a multi-year plan to invest hundreds of millions of dollars in maternity facilities, services and programs. Staten Island University’s North Campus is in the midst of construction on an $80 million women and newborn center, with the new facility expected to open in late 2021. A separate $80 million construction project is ongoing at Southside Hospital to construct 11 private maternity rooms and convert 29 double-occupancy rooms into 18 private ones.

ACPNY is also in the midst of a multi-year, multi-million-dollar investment project, which included opening the first Health Hub in East New York, Brooklyn and a new location in Staten Island earlier this summer. The project will continue with enhancements to locations across the practice and the introduction of several new locations throughout the other boroughs in the coming years.
