New York, NY –As children and families prepared for back to school, EmblemHealth, one of the nation's largest nonprofit health insurers, held a series of Back-to-School events for families and communities across New York City before the start of the school year.

"Back-to-school is both exciting and stressful for families across New York City. When gathering school supplies, clothing, and other needs, health can take a backseat, "said Beth Leonard, EmblemHealth's Chief Corporate Affairs Officer. "Let's ensure the whole family is up to date with their healthcare needs and prepare our children for a successful school year.”

During the events, EmblemHealth and its community resource center EmblemHealth Neighborhood Care (EHNC), provided children and families with free backpacks, school supplies, care packages, and fun activities headed into the 2022 school year. In total, EmblemHealth distributed over 15,000 School Bags and 7,500 School Kits.

EmblemHealth's 14 Neighborhood Care centers (EHNC), located throughout the New York City Metro Area and Long Island, provide free in-person and virtual services to all community members, offer health education and wellness classes, and connect individuals and families to community resources to address social determinants of health (SDOH). As part of the back-to-school giveaways, families also meet with AdvantageCare Physicians (ACPNY) pediatricians to ask questions in preparation for September and beyond.

Members and non-members can visit our Neighborhood Care locations to take advantage of our health and wellness classes, resources, and face-to-face support. Local elected officials, including New York City Council Member Farah Louis, New York State Senators Roxane Persaud, Julia Salazar, Zellnor Myrie, Kevin Parker, Luis Sepulveda, Zellnor Myrie, and Jamaal Bailey, along with New York State Assembly Members Kairines Reyes, Jamie Williams, Latrice Walker, Catalina Cruz, and Crystal Hudson and community groups joined in distributing school supplies, food, and health resources.
