EmblemHealth Wraps Up Annual Health Expos in Brooklyn

10/11/2022

Brooklyn, NY EmblemHealth, one of the nation's largest nonprofit health insurers, was joined by Congresswoman Yvette D. Clarke (N-Y9), New York City Council Member Darlene Mealy (NYC-41), New York State Senator Zellnor Myrie (NYS-20), and New York State Assembly Member Latrice Monique Walker (NYA-55) along with other community leaders to wrap up its Healthier Futures Health and Wellness Expos for 2022. The annual expos, which featured health screenings, vaccinations, community services, and family-friendly entertainment were held over the summer and early Fall in the Bronx, Queens, Connecticut, and Brooklyn. By bringing the doctor's office directly to residents, the expos provided thousands of community members with care and critical information on how to get affordable ongoing health care services, access to food, flu vaccines, and wellness resources.

"At EmblemHealth, we are bringing care straight to the heart of the neighborhoods we proudly serve," said Beth Leonard, EmblemHealth's Chief Corporate Affairs Officer. "Our expos raise health awareness and provide people opportunities to keep up with medical checkups, update their vaccinations, and learn about measures to improve their overall health and wellness."

As people return to a sense of routine, the expos provided the community with access to essential healthcare resources that might have been delayed during the height of the pandemic. EmblemHealth created its annual health and wellness community expos in 2021 to help eliminate barriers to care by bringing healthcare access deeper into New York City neighborhoods.

Medical professionals from AdvantageCare Physicians (ACPNY) were on site to provide flu vaccines and health screenings for issues such as asthma, diabetes, and high blood pressure. In addition, EmblemHealth Neighborhood Care center (EHNC) representatives were onsite to provide services and awareness regarding the free healthcare resource hubs located throughout the five boroughs. And Mount Sinai was on hand to schedule members for both breast cancer and prostate screenings.

"AdvantageCare Physicians understands that to have an impact on public health, we must meet people beyond the walls of our medical offices," said Dr. Navarra Rodriguez, M.D., President and Chief Medical Officer of ACPNY. "We care for the communities we serve because we are a part of them."

EmblemHealth will host its Healthier for the Holidays events later this fall and winter. More information will be available on emblemhealth.com in early November.
