Close up of a young family at a Pediatrician's Office

Family medicine is a branch of primary care medicine designed to treat men, women, and children of all ages.

Family medicine providers receive training in several medical specialties to diagnose and treat a wide range of conditions in all areas of the body. Family practice differs from internal medicine by treating a wider age of patients and number of conditions.

Patients should see a family medicine provider if they want to limit potential specialty referrals. A family medicine provider can also offer a greater continuity of care between family members than internal medicine. In addition to diagnosing and treating specific diseases and conditions, family medicine providers can offer:

  • Preventive care
  • Vaccinations
  • Immunization and screening tests
  • Healthy lifestyle counseling

At Advantagecare Physicians, family medicine providers can also manage chronic illness and coordinate care between multiple specialists.
